China’s independence in technology in its development plan reveals its objective: to expand in areas of frontier technologies. After gaining success in technologies with domestic Huawei and Tencent Holdings, Shenzhen has been a role model for cities like Xi’an.
Xi’an, a major growing city in 2020, has taken firm steps to develop breakthroughs in semiconductor production and the aircraft industry, among others.
Technology innovation tops the agenda of the development plan, Mayor Li Mingyuan stated recently.
Businesses account for the major part of Shenzhen, in spite of Xi’an. Declaring this, Qu Jian, vice-director of the Shenzhen-based think tank China Development Institute, went on to say that each needs to set its destination; and the market must get more involved if Xi’an wants to follow the footprints of Shenzhen.
To encourage technology innovation in Xi’an, non-government and foreign businesses play a big role, Li added. He proudly talked of Longi Green Energy Technology and termed it as the biggest producer of monocrystalline silicon wafers in the world.
