The three-year project of Municipal Energy Resilience (MER) will be beneficial to municipalities in the Western Cape. This project allows them to securely buy energy from Independent Power Producers (IPPs). According to the new energy rules, it lowers potential risks while building operational volume for municipalities needs for energy supplies.
Organized by Department of Economic Development and Tourism, the project will take effect in 3 stages.
First is to identify municipalities and making plans. It involves selecting several renewable energy equipment, costs, investment measure, location examination, readiness of municipalities and scheduling. Second phase would be execution of projects in the selected municipalities.
And final step will address developing master plan for materializing the project and launching these projects in other municipalities as far as funding could allow.
