Malaysia’s AirAsia Group To Launch Drone Delivery

While the low-cost airline looks into expanding in time of the pandemic, the Malaysia’s AirAsia Group Bhd aims to introduce its air taxi and first delivery drone service.

Its other plan is to start the ride-hailing industry in April to facilitate travels. Tony Fernandes, the group’s CEO, said the air taxi with a pilot carries four seats. AirAsia is focusing to develop this service, which will launch its work within 18 months, he also added. The group, improving after the Covid-19 negative effects, takes the opportunity to expand its digital evolution, Fernandes said.

Teleport, logistics platform of AirAsia, will run its initial commercial delivery service by the year’s end, he stated. Teleport’s current trial on drone delivery in the city is supported by the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre.

Hit by the pandemic, the airline seeks out investors participation and loans to raise $613.95 million.
