Will Agri Reforms Aid Indian Farmers?

India’s fresh reforms on farming will greatly benefit its agriculture, according to an Indian economist. Previous reforms attached to the law during 2020 have prompted Indian farmers in the states of Punjab and Haryana to protest as some old rules which used to support farmers have been left out. The new reforms focus more on private actors rather than farmers. Unsettled negotiations between government officials and farmers agents have been going on for some time. Krishnamurthy Venkata Subramanian, the Indian economist and current Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India, approved Narendra Modi’s speeches, saying the old regulations won’t benefit our economy and reforms are highly essential. He also added these rules will certainly help small farmers as well. The new bills will transform India’s agriculture and encourage farmers as well. They are endorsed by the majority of Indian economists who believe reforms will guarantee the agriculture’s competitiveness. However, some maintain that farmers rights, concerns and interests should also be observed. The government will ensure minimum support price (MSP), a insurance that the governments grant if prices of specific crops, like wheat and rice, fall. Samira H.
