GM to End Marketplace App

General Motors Company (GM) is halting its Marketplace application which enables car owners to purchase commodities and services in their vehicles. The first industry to initiate this initiative in late 2017, GM couldn’t meet its expectations as not so many users applied the app.

After the latest evaluation of app’s services, the automotive manufacturer has decided to cease it as of next month, said Stephanie Obendorfer, GM’s spokeswoman. Currently, there is no substitute for the app in GM, she added.

The spokeswoman didn’t mention the app’s usage rates; however, the rates were thousands out of millions of cars when the app began its work, according to an engineer.

The American automaker notified car owners via email, saying, to guarantee our services create best experiences for our users, we evaluate them on a regular basis. We decided to end Marketplace services, it added. The technology was applied in vehicles including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles in the U.S. after its introduction.

The free app partnered with dealers for coupons and services including Shell and ExxonMobil to offer gas and Dunkin' Donuts.
