LG Electronics company is set to present a robot for disinfection of microbial-coated surfaces in early 2021. The South Korean technology will be used in the U.S. hospitality services, education system and retails.
Head of the robot business division in LG's Business Solutions Company, Roh Kyu-chan, said the robot, applying ultraviolet light, will be beneficial in places where hygiene matters most like hotels and restaurants.
The robot utilizes UV-C, which is proved to be disinfecting air, water and surfaces, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, FDA is not clear enough as to how much of UV-C radiation would cripple viruses.
Based on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note, people might catch Covid-19 through touching a contaminated object or surface and touching eyes, nose and mouth; yet, this is not so prevalent for transmission of the virus. Physical contact is the most rampant way.
