The renovation of the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway, has been received well by the villagers in Chivi as it has created some job opportunities for them. They have benefited from their work to restore the highway. Ms. Mary Mavhima, one of the villagers, believes that the project has, to a large extent, helped her financially; so, she can take care of her children’s school tuitions and prepare the requirements of her family. She’s hopeful to have a chance to work in other similar construction projects.
Construction engineers have worked to create a solid reconstruction plan which follows design standards.
Starting its operation last year, the Exodus and Company struggled with plenty of work and taking away weak soils at a two-kilometer span of the road.
It is expected that the initial 5 kilometers of the road will be tarred until the end of September. And the entire 20-kilometer project is planned to be finished by mid-October.
The first 32.2 km portion of the road was wrapped up by Bitumen World in Bubi, Matabeleland South last month.
Other companies involved are Fossil Contracting, Masimba Contracting and Tensor Systems, apart from Exodus and Company.
