BP and Orsted to Co-op in Green Hydrogen Project

BP, the London-based multinational oil and gas company, has signed an accord with Orsted, the Fredericia-based power company, for developing a massive renewable hydrogen project in Germany. The plan includes generation of a 50-MW electrolyzer and "associated infrastructure" in a refinery northwest of Germany. Green hydrogen is generated by water electrolysis and the required electricity is supplied through energy sources such as wind or sun. The power is expected to be generated through an offshore wind farm. Martin Neubert, the Executive Vice President in Orsted, said refineries consume plenty of hydrogen in their operations. According to him, renewable hydrogen is a better alternative for fossil-based hydrogen (presently used in refineries) and will diminish generation of CO2. The plan will be materialized by 2024.
