Speaking in Brikama on 20MW plant project, the Gambian president Adama Barrow said a noticeable number of the population have no access to electricity although the government has made efforts to resolve the issue since 2017. He stated the government will provide access to electricity for 685 communities in the country over the next 3 years.
A detailed plan is underway to achieve 2025 target, he added. He announced to date the majority of NDP (National Development Plan) along with 2017 Energy Roadmap have been realized. So, the energy sector is taking stronger steps towards its achievement.
He called for the Board and Management of NAWEC to re-boost their power capacity and help the government to achieve the target. He also appreciated the efforts by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs for their monetary support, equal to $3.22 Million.
The funds for the project come from the government and the Islamic Development Bank.
